Refueling made more convenient with payment by card

Pay by card

Seychelles Petroleum Company Limited (SEYPEC) has announced that effective July 2018, motorists in Seychelles can now pay for fuel using debit and credit cards in the forecourts of the entire service station network in the country.

This new cashless system, internet-based Point of Sale (POS) is being introduced this month with the objective of introducing payment by card to enhance the delivery service at all fuel stations with a modern, flexible and convenient process.

“Innovation is a key component of our operations and so we worked closely with Nouvobanq to introduce a technology which would ease the payment process,” says Sarah Romain, SEYPEC’s General Manager for Commercial. “This will increase service efficiency and make refueling faster, all the while ensuring the security of every transaction. The staff at fuel stations have been trained to use the portable POS,” she added

All credit cards issued by Visa, MasterCard and UPI can now be tendered by motorists to settle their refueling charges at the pump.

Fuel sales is one of the largest retail activities in Seychelles and due to its level of complexity and scale of deployments, SEYPEC had to consider the appropriate terminal for use at the station. The nature of petroleum products on sale require very sophisticated electronic devices to be used at a petrol station. The Verifone VX675 device chosen meets the industry norms for use at a petrol station bearing an ATEX certification which has passed the necessary tests that deem it fit for use in such a hazardous environment.

“It is paramount for us to keep improving our customer journey and experience whilst keeping all of our sites running with quick, easy, compliant and safe procedures,” Sarah Romain added.

This latest innovation for customer service at all the country’s fuel stations will significantly reduce any inconvenience to locals who would henceforth be able to refuel on a cashless basis and will also allow tourists to settle their fuel bills with their international cards.
