SEYPEC Donates Two Jet A1 Fuel Isotainers to the Seychelles Defence Forces

Donation

The Seychelles Petroleum Company (SEYPEC) has once again demonstrated its steadfast commitment to national security through the donation of two 21,000-litre JET A1 fuel Isotainers to the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF).

The official handover ceremony was held in the presence of the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan, Vice President Ahmed Afif, the Chief of the Defence Forces, Major General Michael Rosette, Members of the Defence Forces Council, Chairperson and Board Directors of SEYPEC, Officers of Seychelles Defence Forces, and SEYPEC management and the Operations Team working on the project.

The ceremony included a blessing of the two Isotainers, followed by an inspection and overview of their functions by the attending delegations.

Speaking on behalf of the SDF, heartfelt appreciation was extended to SEYPEC for its meaningful contribution towards strengthening the nation’s defence capabilities. “Since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in 2022, our partnership with SEYPEC has steadily grown. Significant achievements have already been realized, such as the expansion of the Coast Guard’s fuel capacity and the donation of a 6,000-litre towable fuel bowser to the Air Force in July 2023. These contributions have greatly enhanced our operational readiness and ensured uninterrupted day and night operations,” said the Chief of Defence Forces, Major General Rosette.

The Coast Guard and Air Force play a critical role in safeguarding Seychelles’ vast maritime domain and distant outer islands. With the addition of the two new isotainers, the SDF’s logistical support has been significantly strengthened, enabling greater resilience, preparedness, and effectiveness in fulfilling its national responsibilities.

This donation stands as a testament to SEYPEC’s leadership and vision in supporting the Seychelles Defence Forces to address present challenges while preparing for future opportunities.

Speaking at the ceremony, SEYPEC’s CEO, Mrs. Sarah Romain reaffirmed the company’s commitment, stating:
“SEYPEC takes great pride in contributing to the defence and protection of our nation. This donation reflects not only our corporate responsibility but also our dedication to ensuring that the men and women of the Seychelles Defence Forces have the resources they need to operate effectively and safely. We will continue to stand as a strong partner of the SDF, working hand in hand to safeguard our sovereignty and support national development.”

The isotainers, valued at 1.3 million rupees in total,
signifies a more efficient, and more sustainable solution for the SDF.

One isotainer can now remain stationary on an island as a larger and more secure storage facility — the SDF's storage capacity has doubled the volume of Jet A1 that is currently distributed by SDF to the outer islands. The second isotainer will travel between the Coast Guard and the outer islands via a landing craft, ensuring that fuel supply remains constant and uninterrupted.
